For streaming, almost always. Closed-back headphones keep the game and alerts out of the microphone; open-back ones can leak into a sensitive microphone and feed back at high volume, beyerdynamic warns. PlayStation does not say whether the PULSE Elite’s earcups are closed.
Wired studio headphones plug into the headphone output of your microphone, interface or mixer and never need charging. Earbuds or a wired headset with a microphone need a 3.5 mm headset socket, which carries sound and microphone on one plug. A wireless headset brings its own microphone and adapter, and needs charging between streams.
