These readings describe the picture in this browser, not your OBS output.

Start the camera to see the choices your browser allows.

Your snapshot matches this view. Mirroring here does not change OBS.

Camera only. Your microphone stays off. No video or snapshot is uploaded.

Stop the camera here before opening it in OBS. Leaving this tab also turns it off.

Check the picture before the numbers

Sit where you stream and move as you normally would. Check that your face stays in frame, text is facing the way you want, and the picture keeps moving. If your face is dark or your glasses catch the light, use the streaming lighting layout to adjust the shot before changing cameras.

What resolution and frame rate tell you

Resolution is the width and height of the picture this browser receives. The browser chooses the capture mode; this is not a search for your webcam’s highest resolution.

Preview frame rate counts the frames sent to the picture in this tab. Your browser, screen and computer load can limit it. If your browser cannot count those frames, the label changes to Browser-reported frame rate: that is a setting, not a measurement of smooth motion. How the webcam readings work explains the difference.

Camera not working?

Permission is blocked or no prompt appears

Open this site’s permissions beside the address bar and allow Camera. Check your computer or phone’s camera privacy settings too. Then press Start camera again. If you opened this page inside another app, use your usual browser. The page needs a secure HTTPS connection.

No camera, a black picture or a frozen frame

Check the webcam’s shutter and USB connection, and choose the right camera above. Close other camera tabs and apps, including OBS, then try again. If adding another USB device makes the picture freeze, follow the USB camera connection checks. A low frame rate alone cannot tell you which cable or device is at fault.

My separate camera does not appear

Charging through USB does not mean a camera sends live video. Use the camera capture checker to check its USB or HDMI path, clean output and power requirements.

Finish the check in OBS

Stop the camera here. In OBS, open your video capture source and select the same camera. Check its resolution and frame-rate settings, then make a local recording with your normal scene and lights. The pre-stream checklist covers the rest of that rehearsal.

If the picture works here but your broadcast stutters, check the OBS network, rendering and encoding counters. This preview cannot test the stream your viewers receive.

If the webcam cannot give you the shot you need after checking the setup, the webcam guide compares the choices by framing, focus, mounting and the connection to your computer.
