USB-C and data protocol

USB-C describes a connector shape. USB 2.0, USB 3 and their data rates describe the connection’s capabilities. Two USB-C ports can support different speeds, power arrangements and video functions. A cable or adapter must match the required job; a different plug cannot upgrade the host controller.

UVC

USB Video Class is a standard way for a camera-like device to expose video over USB. UVC support does not mean every output mode or manufacturer software feature works on every host. A camera’s USB charging or file-transfer mode is not proof of live UVC video.

Capture versus passthrough

Capture is the signal delivered to the computer for recording or streaming. Passthrough is the signal sent onward to a display. A capture card may pass 4K60 HDR to a screen while delivering a lower-resolution SDR capture to USB. Compare these paths separately.

Loopback

Loopback returns computer playback to an input that software can record or route. It can help capture applications, music or calls. The exact channels and exclusions depend on the device or software configuration; the word alone does not prove a safe guest return.

Mix-minus

A mix-minus is a mix with a particular source left out. For a remote guest, the return normally excludes that guest’s incoming voice so they do not hear themselves delayed. It is a destination-specific routing condition, not simply a microphone mute or a synonym for loopback.

Direct monitoring

Direct monitoring sends an input to a headphone or other output without relying on the full software monitoring round trip. It helps you hear your microphone, but does not prove that the audience receives the same mix. Record and replay the actual broadcast output.

HDCP

HDCP protects certain HDMI content. The reviewed capture paths require unencrypted input. An HDMI socket does not make protected movie or streaming-app output capturable, and this site does not provide a protection-bypass method.

Clean HDMI and continuous power

Clean HDMI is a live feed without unwanted interface overlays. Continuous power means the chosen camera power arrangement supports the camera while it operates; charging while switched off is a different claim. Verify both before choosing an HDMI camera path.

Known subtotal

The known subtotal adds only costs the visitor entered. Items with blank amounts are counted separately. It is not a full setup total until all relevant hardware, cables and mounts have known amounts.
