Before you choose it
Main checkMatch the USB power to the brightness you need. If your computer’s port gives less power, use the higher-power supply the maker lists or settle for less brightness.Full brightness needs a 30 W or stronger USB-C power supply. Use the included desk clamp; the original Air stand is a different design.Check the desk edge, clamp clearance and power location before choosing it.No mount comes in the box: it needs a 1/4-inch screw mount, a tripod or Elgato’s Multi Mount. On battery it lasts about 4 hours at half brightness. At 250 lumens it lights a face at the desk, not a room. Logitech asks for a USB 3.0 port to power it.Logitech does not print a lumen figure. For full brightness it needs a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port or a 5 V, 1.4 A USB power adapter. It runs from the mains adapter in the box, so place it within reach of an outlet; the USB cable is for control only. The front key light gives up to 400 lumens. There is no app or computer control, so you set it by hand, and its power adapter needs a mains socket near the desk.On its battery it lasts up to 75 minutes at full brightness. Lume Cube’s page does not say whether it runs while plugged in, so try a full-length session on its USB cable before a long stream.

Choose by the job

A face at a compact desk

Key Light Neo and Litra Glow mount on your monitor, beside or above the camera, and run from a USB port. Key Light Neo’s monitor mount comes in its with-mount package.

Brightness follows the USB port

Key Light Neo gives 400 lumens from a USB-A port, 700 from USB-C and 1,000 with a 3 A supply. Key Light Air MK.2 needs a 30 W USB-C supply for its full 2,100 lumens, and Litra Beam a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port or a 5 V, 1.4 A adapter for full brightness.

Power from the wall

Key Light, Litra Beam LX and NEEWER R18 come with their own mains power supply, so they take no power from your computer. Place them within reach of a socket.

Away from a socket

Key Light Mini runs about 4 hours at 50% brightness on its built-in battery, charged over USB-C; no mount comes in the box, so add a 1/4-inch screw mount or a tripod. Lume Cube Broadcast Lighting Kit runs up to 75 minutes at 100% brightness or 130 minutes at 50% on its built-in battery, charged over USB; its desk stand is in the box.

Set it by hand

NEEWER R18 has no app: you set it from the touch panel on its arm or the wireless remote. Key Light is set from Elgato’s Control Center app over Wi-Fi; the others work from the light or the app.

A colored light at the back

Litra Beam LX has an RGB light on its back for a colored accent on the wall behind it, as well as the key light on its front.

Where each model fits

Three limits of this comparison

  1. Makers measure brightness differently: most print lumens, the light’s total output; NEEWER prints lux at 0.5 m, the brightness at one distance; Logitech prints no figure for the Litra Beam. The numbers in one row can’t be lined up directly.
  2. Color rendering (CRI) is each maker’s own figure, and Litra Beam LX prints none. Elgato’s Key Light page gives two figures, above 92 in its specifications and above 94 where it compares its lights, so its cell stays “Not confirmed”.
  3. No table shows glare on glasses or how the light mixes with daylight from a window. Place it, then check your picture in the webcam test.

Two of them head to head

Already own an older model?

This table lists models you can buy now. An older model you already own can still do the job: add it in the setup builder and test it. Different colors of one model are not listed separately, and a newer version can need different ports or software from the one before it.

Once the light is in place, check how your picture looks in the webcam test.
