Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen

Two independent microphone inputs for a two-person recording.

RØDE Streamer X

HDMI capture and a microphone input in one box.

Before you choose

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen

The catch: Loopback alone does not remove a guest’s voice from their return. Build a separate mix-minus route before using remote guests, or choose a mixer with that routing available.

You need:

  • An XLR microphone and an XLR cable for each input you use
  • Headphones with a 1/4-inch plug, or a 3.5 mm adapter

Check first:

  • A USB-A port on your computer

RØDE Streamer X

The catch: Set capture output separately from the display passthrough mode. Configure the audio returns before going live so HDMI audio and computer loopback do not reach OBS twice.

You need:

  • An HDMI cable for each camera or computer
  • A microphone: an XLR microphone and an XLR cable for each input you use, or a headset with a 3.5 mm TRRS plug, or a RØDE USB microphone it supports, or a RØDE Series IV wireless microphone
  • Headphones with a 1/4-inch plug (or a 3.5 mm adapter), or a headset in the 3.5 mm TRRS socket

Check first:

  • A USB port that fits the cable
