Check the camera and lens fit
Elgato Prompter example: Elgato Prompter uses different backplates for camera arrangements. Its ring backplate is for threaded DSLR or mirrorless lenses; its universal shroud covers other supported arrangements. The quick-start guide warns against motorized lenses. Check the maker’s camera list and exact lens fit before choosing a backplate.
With the ring backplate, a supplied step-up ring screws onto lens threads of 49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 67, 72, 77 or 82 mm; your lens cap shows the size. The universal shroud needs a camera with a ¼-inch thread for the L-bracket.
Support the complete assembly
Check that the tripod or desk mount supports both the camera and prompter, including attached accessories. Follow the specified mounting point for your backplate. Leave room for cables and make sure a moving lens cannot touch the glass.
A prompter display connection does not replace the camera’s video path to OBS. Connect and test the camera separately using the camera-as-webcam guide.
Check the frame and readable script
View the recorded camera image while reading from your normal position. Check for glass reflections, blocked framing and text you cannot read comfortably. Prompter connects with one USB-C cable to a USB 3.0 port; Elgato's Camera Hub app installs its display driver and the teleprompter script software. Then rehearse scrolling without changing the camera route.
